The New Chris and Ann

On Saturday we went clothes shopping with three of Ann’s co-workers. They are true shopoholics, but more importantly, they have taste. We went to two stores where they chose a dozen things for us to try on. We may have monopolized the changing rooms, but our friends also gave advice to other shoppers and we received advice from them so that it became a communal activity. Neither Ann nor I particularly enjoy shopping, but I have to admit, this was fun. The enthusiasm of our friends was infectious.



Bangalore often experiences rolling blackouts. The stores in the mall lost power several times (except for emergency lighting, the cash registers, and an illuminated advertisement or two.) Our friends didn’t miss a beat: they pulled out flashlights and continued to shop.

Ms. Ferentz is modeling a stunning blue-green kurta with matching pants, set off by a translucent pink dupatta. It’s a perfect outfit for presenting your life history to 160 fellow employees on Monday who will be stunned by your elegance. The dupatta can also be let loose so that it flies back behind you like a cape as you roar down the avenue on your scooter.
































For those more relaxing moments, join Ms. Ferentz and enjoy a cup of tea while sitting on the balcony a salwar kameez. The white soft-cotton pants are so comfortable that they won't distract you from enjoyng the most mellow brew. The red kurta sets off the ensemble so that, should friends drop by, they will know that you truly understand fashion.

























Mr. Pollari has chosen the white-on-white look optimally designed to combine style with the ever-present need to remain cool in a hot environment. Made of ultra-light weight cotton, the knee-length kurta covers the pants, which, although they do resemble pajamas, are nonetheless, acceptable attire for a stroll down the street or to the market or for sitting at home in front of the computer. Alas, Mr. Pollari has ruined the stylishness of the outfit by insisting on wearing US-purchased hiking shoes. Perhaps next time things will work out better for him.
